Our Mission

GKS is committed to ensure basic needs i.e. food, clothes, education, health, shelter, and recreational facilities of hardcore poor, poor and disadvantaged people. The priority of GKS is to work with ethnic community, char & chalan beel dwellers and other vulnerable geographical areas. The strategic areas of GKS Food Security & Livelihoods, Human Rights & Good governance, Environment & Disaster and Human Resource Development while mainstreaming gender and HIV/AIDS. GKS is also committed to build capacity of the people of Bangladesh, so that they can survive in globally competitive fields.

Executive Committee

The GKS executive committee consists of seven members. They are highly distinguished professionals, activists and entrepreneurs who are elected to the Governing Body and bring their diverse skills and experience to the governance of BRAC. Four meetings of the Governing Body and an Annual General Meeting of the General Body were held in last year.

Ombudsperson:

GKS has an Ombudsperson for developing the governance system and investigating mismanagement and misuse the power within the organization. This body is improving the organizational governance system and grievance such as corruption, abuse the power or discretion, negligence, oppression, nepotism, rudeness, arbitrariness, unfairness and discrimination

Delegation of Authority:

GKS has developed clear written policies regarding the authority for each level of management and staff. The staff is empowered to take decisions at all levels. Procedure manuals and policy documents are available to all staff.

Audit:

The Audit team assists the GKS Executive Board in reviewing the financial condition of the organization, the effectiveness of the internal control system of the organization, performance and findings of the internal auditors and recommending appropriate remedial action. The internal auditor regularly audits all projects and branches under the supervision of President. The external auditor also audits all projects, general accounts and management annually.

Finance:

GKS’s Finance and Accounts Division performs a vital role within the organization in improving program efficiency, enhancing management decision making capabilities, and promoting transparency and accountability. Under this division, financial data from all transactions carried out at different cost centers in the organization are collected and stored, data useful for decision-making is processed into information and adequate controls to safeguard organizational assets are provided.

The Finance and Accounts Division prepares GKS’s financial statements in accordance with international reporting standards to ensure transparency.

Monitoring:

Monitoring is a part of our internal control mechanism for program. This unit conducts periodic analysis using selected indicators to enable managers to determine whether key activities are being carried out as planned and whether the actions are on the way for achieving our activities. Monitoring activities are designed as a continuous process of data collection, analysis and judgment in order to get relevant and accurate information. Monitoring findings are disseminated to the relevant field level manager during data collection by the monitors regularly through presentations, discussions and the publication of summary and narrative reports. Emphasis is laid on assessing the effectiveness of the project components with an indication of the corrective measures required. This information is especially designed for senior GKS management, program managers, stakeholders and donors. Gradually the monitoring department has broadened its area of activities to include all cores and support programs of GKS. This monitoring cell is supervised by the office of President.

Procurement:

GKS has a separate Procurement Department that manages the requisitioning of purchases for the programmes. In all aspects, it follows GKS Procurement Guidelines and Implementation Procedures, which are transparent and were developed in line with Bangladesh procurement standards
